Today I read an article from PR Daily about “traits of a solid PR professional.” The first few traits were business-minded, flexible and a strong writer. In being business-minded, the PR professional thinks about what daily tasks they do for their clients in the bigger picture of how their work is helping the client’s business. This means that the professional is actively asking him/herself how he/she is contributing to the bigger picture of business success. A PR professional must also be flexible and a strong writer. Because PR professionals are catering to different clients both of these traits make sense considering A. you need to adapt to your various clients’ needs and B. you need to be able to effectively communicate on behalf of your client to their desired audience.
The last few traits are being a sponge, being unafraid of learning more and being a news junkie. The article states that “the best young professionals understand that experience can be gained from closely watching co-workers, carefully noting their accomplishments and learning from their challenges.” It also says that learning is endless, which I find particularly exciting as you have clients in different industries and that you have the opportunity to learn with each client experience. The final trait of being a news junkie intimidates me. As much as I hate to admit it, I get the majority of my news from Twitter. I am intimidate by the number of news outlets there are and I have no been able to find one that I enjoy consistently reading and am not embarrassed to say that I like getting my news from them (sorry, Huffington Post).
